With the emergence of commercialized GenAI and the explosion of media interest in the rapidly growing sector, it can be overwhelming (even for early adopters) to track the top open source projects. We launched the Decibel Generative AI Open Source Index (GenOS Index) as a one stop shop of the hottest open source projects in GenAI. Identifying the top 30 open source projects in Generative AI as ranked by GitHub star growth, the GenOS Index classifies the most popular open-source platforms in the preceding 90 days - delivering visibility on the dynamic evolution of the Generative AI ecosystem.
Recently, the Top 30 list shows the first signs of stabilizing. In contrast to the April edition, when the GenOS Index (the top 30 list) had a whopping 18 new entrants, the most recent report only 5 - PrivateGPT, Bark, Text Generation Web UI, Chatbox, and Chatbot for PDF. Additionally, there has been very little movement at the top of the list - Auto-GPT continues to crush it at the very top - while the top 5 projects this month were ranked almost similarly last month. Still, the dust is far from settled, so stay updated with the GenOS Index! And don’t miss the Rising Stars category, a couple that caught my eye include:
Nebuly: A platform to monitor and optimize AI costs by connecting to all AI cost sources (of course all early adopters are all going to need/try this!)
ChatAll: Since different LLM-based bots often excel at different tasks, ChatALL allows one to send a prompt to several AI bots concurrently and help discover the best results. (makes sense!)

We held our first Gen AI in Cybersecurity Meetup at the RSA Conference with Michael Hanley (CSO and VP of Engineering at GitHub) and Caleb Sima (CISO of Databricks / Robinhood + our special guest Daniel Miessler. It was great to dispel many of the myths in Gen AI and to demonstrate what startups are able to create today.

Sublime Security - “Natural Language Email Threat Detection and Response” - using LLMs to combat phishing with AI-assisted countermeasures (Joshua Kamdjou, Ian Thiel)
